マーティン・デニーやレス・バクスターなど、エキゾチカ・ミュージックに傾倒していたというプロデューサーDorianの音楽的嗜好が、よりポップな装いをまとって、ハイの音域でキラキラ輝いている。カラフルでヌーディーな開放感に溢れた、サマー・チューンズ。

ポップソングから遠く離れ、ミニマルな音響に拘泥していった彼の新作が、まさかこんなに歌モノに回帰するとは思わなかった。“点”から、“波”へ、“抽象性”から、“具象性”へ。音の隙間に不思議な波がたゆたう、底知れない中毒性。

パッと見マイルス・デイヴィスみたいな御面相が、『地獄の黙示録』のごとく水面に顔半分を浮かべているかのようなジャケットが強烈。ジャズ・シーンの中心に鎮座していたマイルスが、よりエレクトクロニックなフュージョンに傾倒していったのと同じ道を歩むかのように、サンダーキャットもまたファンク、ヒップホップ、あらゆるジャンルを横断して、真にクロスオーバーなシーンを我々に見せつける。

蓮沼執太とU-zhaanの演奏に乗せて、アート・リンゼイがゲスト・ヴォーカルで参加する日が来ようとは。これを僥倖と呼ばずして何と言おう。

美しいピアノやハープの音色、柔らかなエレクトロニック・ノイズ、しとしとと降りしきる雨を精妙にコラージュして、眩しいくらいにキラキラと光溢れる音像を創り上げた、サンファのデビュー・アルバム。母親を癌で失った哀しみがありありと刻まれた、極めてパーソナルな作品。
